Oh, to be in Mexico, now that the museums are there!
The city of Aguascalientes is the birthplace of the artist José Guadalupe Posada.
The man behind “La Calavera Catrina” — a cornerstone of the Mexican cultural tradition of the Day of the Dead.
Anyway… today I popped into his museum.
And suddenly found myself witnessing a live performance: two teenagers, evidently of different sexes, decided to make their own contribution to contemporary art, right in the middle of the exhibition.
After that I realised I hadn’t been to a museum in ages. I’ve fallen behind on the cultural agenda and can no longer tell an installation from simply enterprising youth. It was less Tate Modern, more Carry On Curating.
Conclusion: visit museums more often. It broadens the mind.
Occasionally, rather more than you’d bargained for 🫣
