Airlines have been running dynamic pricing on cash fares for a long time, and ruthlessly.
Now they’re bolting it onto award fares too.
But the algorithms glitch.
My miles-trained eye snagged on a blatant imbalance in the pricing.
The value-per-mile curve on this ticket looks like stingy Scots: 1.13 β 1.51 β 1.95 β 0.87.
The algorithm broke at the step between the two most “miles-heavy” fares.
To work out the size of the prize precisely, I roped in my neighbour, a maths-and-physics type.
My neighbour is a proper clever clogs.
In no time he knocked up a script in Python and served up the data π
