# Airline Pricing Dynamics 🕯

Airlines have been running dynamic pricing on cash fares for a long time, and ruthlessly.

Now they're bolting it onto award fares too.

But the algorithms glitch.

My miles-trained eye snagged on a blatant imbalance in the pricing.

The value-per-mile curve on this ticket looks like [stingy Scots](https://www.perplexity.ai/search/stingy-scots-obiasni-7xfpuzKWS0.hqC5FP_bhEA): 1.13 → 1.51 → 1.95 → 0.87.

The algorithm broke at the step between the two most "miles-heavy" fares.

To work out the size of the prize precisely, I roped in my neighbour, a maths-and-physics type.

My neighbour is a proper clever clogs.
