There are people who plan their travels a year ahead.
And there are people who decide in half an hour and then start bodging together logistical problems overnight.
I’m the second kind of tourist-naturalist.
Japan wasn’t in this year’s plans.
But over the past week a string of events happened. Each on its own meant nothing.
Then they got together, exchanged glances, crossed themselves and decided: we’re flying to Japan.
In summer, for heaven’s sake! Mad dogs and Englishmen.
The next few posts will be about getting ready “while it’s hot”.
So hot that some of the ideas turned up before common sense had a chance to say “Konnichiwa!”
The last time I was in Japan was December 2024.
For all of an hour and a half, admittedly.
Thirty minutes of which weren’t even on the programme. That was a bonus from the airline for a delayed flight.
So there you have it: a Banzai in the making β©
